Kia’s award-winning Rio has gained attention and popularity for its attractive design and high towing capacity. This compact car offers much more than meets the eye – not to mention the manufacturer’s generous seven-year warranty.
Identified as a Kia by its distinctive fascia, the model is singled out with black bezel headlights and a matching front grille. A third brake light sits high above the heated rear windscreen, and the Rio can sit on up to 17-inch alloys, depending on your chosen trim. Overall, the car has a more streamlined, sweeping look that signals the future design direction of the range.
The black accents on the outside of the car are matched by the dark full cloth upholstery, and the cabin also includes sliding, reclining front seats, and split folding rear seats. A day and night rear-view mirror has been included to ensure that the driver always has full visibility, and the trip computer delivers constant journey and performance information.
Engines for the Rio span from 1.1 litres up to 1.4 litres in capacity, giving you more choice of power levels and between petrol and diesel. The maximum 107bhp and 170Nm of torque are both impressive for a model of its size, potentially resulting in a 0-60mph time of close to 11 seconds. Fuel economy is generous – at least 44.1mpg combined – and CO2 emissions drop to as little as 85g/km.
EuroNCAP has given the model a five-star safety rating, which is unsurprising given the high level of standard protective equipment. The side impact protection system is supplemented by front, side and curtain airbags, with driver assistances integrated to prevent collisions in the first instance. Other highlights of the safety specification list include the ISOFIX child seat attachments, ABS, adaptive brake lights, and Hill Start Assist Control.
